Unleavened Bread Creations

Happy Feast of Unleavened Bread! As we prepared for these special days the girls were getting so excited to make Unleavened Bread! They were coming up with all these ideas of shapes and things they wanted to try to make.

Unleavened Bread Minis

I think the anticipation was as fun as the real thing! Well, we had a good time, even if the kitchen was covered with flour and the counters filled with dough! I’ll let Sophia explain how it went and we’ll share our recipe at the end:

Mixing the dough

How we did our special unleavened bread thing was we made regular unleavened bread dough and, well…. the 3D shapes that we wanted to make, they became too hard to do. The dough just wasn’t right and the things kept falling over and I decided not to do that. But we still did something so fun to do. We did… So, just take any dough that is your best recipe and it should work. Or go down to the bottom of this and look for our recipe. We took our dough and rolled it out with a rolling pin.

Rolling out the dough

Then, just grab any cookie cutters or play dough molds that you think would be nice and make sure to wash the play dough molds ahead of time so that little tiny pieces don’t get in your dough. Then, place your cookie cutter carefully on a well rolled out piece of dough and press on it.

Cutting out the minis

Pick up your creation and lay it on a baking pan. Do this many times with the same one if you don’t have very many of them or do it with different ones if you have extra. If you don’t have cookie cutters, you can use a butter knife and cut a square or other shape out many times and put them on a baking pan. Then you can either prick or not prick your creations and then bake them.

Look at these cute little shapes

When they are out of the oven just keep them on the pan or put them on a cooling rack. When they are cooled, put them in a container or bag, spread with butter, Kerry gold or Irish butter is really good. Or honey. Then Enjoy! Love,

Sophia Smith

  1. We have a much simpler recipe that try. I think cut outs would work just fine. If you’re interested, let me know.
